Pam_smb comes in two version, the new v2 release and the old v1 release.
The v2 release is much more robust and supports a lot of new features, it also
can be run in v1 mode. v1 is now outdated with v1.1.6 being the last release on that tree.
v2 supports the standard v1 features set.
- Linux with PAM and Solaris 2.6 support (may work on others)
- Authenticate users against a domain with primary and backup servers
- Uses encrypted LANMAN passwords over the network
v2 contains some additional features when used in daemon mode:
- Caching and serialisation support
- Multiple domain support with two servers for each domain
- Username mapping between UNIX and NT usernames
